Research Interest

My research interests are in developing efficient and mathematical consistent algorithms that solve Computer Vision problems. In particular I am interested in problems that can be formulated as an energy minimization problem. In the past I worked on shape related problems and on model estimation problems. Depending on the problem, I worked either on discrete or continuous approaches which involved but were not restricted to Differential Geometry, Partial Differential Equations, Convex and Non-Convex Optimization as well as Planar Graphs, Integer Linear Programming and Hierarchical Model Estimation.

Brief Bio

Frank R. Schmidt received a "Vordiplom" degree in Mathematics (2000), and a "Diplom" degree in Mathematics (2003). From 2004 to 2005, he worked in the Research Group for Multimedia Signal Processing at the University of Bonn (Germany) headed by Michael Clausen. From January 2006 until March 2010, he was a PhD student in the Research Group for Computer Vision, Image Processing and Pattern Recognition at the University of Bonn (Germany) headed by Daniel Cremers.

From April 2010 until April 2012, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Vision Group at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario (Canada) under the supervision of Yuri Boykov. From May 2012 until February 2013, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Vision Group at ESIEE in Paris (France) under the supervision of Hugues Talbot.

Since March 2013, he works as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Vision Group at the University of Freiburg (Germany) under the supervision of Thomas Brox.
